US School Index Policy
Effective date: July 19, 2026
These Terms of Use apply to access to and use of US School Index. Use of the site indicates acceptance of these terms.
Informational purpose
US School Index provides general education statistics, comparisons, rankings and explanatory material. Content is provided for informational and research purposes.
The site does not provide legal, financial, academic-placement, accreditation, admissions or professional education advice. Information should not be used as the sole basis for a decision affecting a student, teacher, school, institution or community.
Independent status
US School Index is an independent website. It is not operated by, affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Center for Education Statistics, a state education department, a school district, a college or a university.
References to public agencies or institutions identify sources or subjects and do not imply sponsorship or approval.
Accuracy and availability
Reasonable efforts may be made to present accurate and current information, but education data can be revised, delayed, suppressed or reported under different definitions.
No guarantee is made that every page is complete, current, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose. Original source documentation should be consulted before relying on a statistic for a significant decision.
Rankings and comparisons
Rankings describe relative position for a specific measure, source and reporting period. They do not establish the overall quality of an education system or institution.
Users are responsible for considering methodology, source year, statistical uncertainty, local context and comparability limitations.
Permitted use
Visitors may access and use the site for personal, educational, journalistic and non-commercial research purposes, subject to these terms and applicable law.
Limited quotations and references may be used with clear attribution. Source datasets may be subject to separate terms established by the original publisher.
Prohibited use
The site must not be used to:
- Attempt unauthorized access to accounts, servers, databases or administrative systems.
- Introduce malware, harmful code or disruptive automated requests.
- Interfere with security, availability or normal site operation.
- Misrepresent site content as an official government publication.
- Remove attribution, ownership or source notices.
- Republish substantial original content in a way that substitutes for the site.
- Use automated extraction at a volume that harms performance or bypasses access controls.
- Manipulate, mislabel or selectively present data in a way falsely attributed to US School Index.
Intellectual property
Original page structure, explanatory text, graphics, branding, compilation and presentation may be protected by copyright or other intellectual-property rights.
Underlying government data may be public domain or subject to separate licensing terms. A public source dataset does not automatically make the site’s original commentary, design or compilation unrestricted.
Third-party content and links
Links may be provided to government agencies, datasets, reports and other external resources. US School Index does not control the availability, security, accuracy or privacy practices of external websites.
The presence of a link does not constitute endorsement of the linked organization or all content published by that organization.
No warranty
The site and its content are provided on an “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, no express or implied warranty is made regarding accuracy, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, US School Index and its operators are not liable for losses arising from reliance on site content, inability to access the site, use of external links, source revisions, data errors or decisions made from rankings and comparisons.
Site changes and availability
Pages, features, datasets and access methods may be modified, suspended or removed without prior notice. No guarantee is made that a particular page or historical version will remain permanently available.
Violations
Access may be limited or blocked when activity threatens security, violates these terms, disrupts normal operation or places an unreasonable burden on the site.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site, its services or applicable requirements change. Continued use after publication of updated terms constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
